Using a Humidor

Do you know someone who loves to smoke cigars? Maybe they make a point of buying all kinds of aromatic and exotic varieties on a somewhat regular basis, or maybe they have a favorite brand already. Regardless of this, they can probably benefit from a gift of cigar accessories.

Many cigar enthusiasts invest in a special device known as a cigar humidor to further protect their investments. The humidor is a climate controlled area with the right amount of moisture and the right temperature to keep the cigars at optimal conditions. Interestingly enough, a somewhat serious debate has developed about the use of the special wrappings around all cigars while they are within the controlled environment of the humidor.

One thing that all enthusiasts wonder is if they should leave their gourmet cigars in the special wrappers in which they arrive when they place them inside of their humidors. Well, this can be answered quite simply - yes. Though there is much debate on the issue, most experts agree that the wrappers can reduce the occurrence of flavor mixing that is a problem with unwrapped cigars, and the wrappers can also help the special cigar cutters to remain sharper and cleaner too.

If, however, you have a humidor and leave the cigars in their wrappings they will continue to be protected from unnecessary damages, will retain the proper levels of moisture, and will also be free of the flavors and aromas of neighboring cigars too. While the cellophane does allow for air transfer outside of the wrapper, it simultaneously reduces the amount of mingling of flavors that can occur when bare cigars are stored side by side.

This all adds up to a somewhat clear-cut answer, which is to opt for leaving the cigar in its original cellophane wrapper whether it remains in the box in which it was purchased or in a climate controlled environment instead.
